News is spreading fast about the return of VW's supremely luxurious Phaeton sedan. The car was pulled from the U.S. market back in 2006, but it looks like Volkswagen's had a change of heart and wants to give Americans a second chance to warm up to the luxury VW. Sources say it will be all-new, utilizing the brand's MLB Evo modular platform, which it will share with future Audi models and the VW Touareg. The company also says the Volkswagen Phaeton will be released with a V-8 TDI (turbocharged direct injection diesel) engine that produces about 450 hp and a plug-in hybrid with a V-6 engine and electric motor.
Michael Horn, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, has confirmed that the car will be released in the 2018 or 2019 model year. So in the not-so-distant future, Valley shoppers will get to drive the next-generation Volkswagen in Phoenix, Ariz., which is incredible news for anyone who was sad to see the car leave the North American market almost a decade ago. According to Autonews.com, sources say the latest Phaeton "is virtually developed and finished," but it looks like Volkswagen isn't in a rush to replace the first-generation model. We'll have to wait a while longer, but we're sure it'll be worth it!
As always, when the 2018 or 2019 VW Phaeton goes on sale in Phoenix a few years from now, Camelback Volkswagen will be the place to go for a test drive. We're always excited to introduce VW's latest vehicle models to the Valley and can't wait for the future arrival - or return - of Phaeton!
