Volkswagen recently unveiled its C Coupe GTE Concept at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show and sources are saying that a version of it could go into production in America. The four-door would slot between the Passat and Phaeton, and we think its sleek coupe-like styling and smart plug-in hybrid efficiency would win over U.S. shoppers.

Under the hood is a 210-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and 124-horsepower electric motor. Power is sent to the wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission. An advanced lithium-ion battery pack ups the car’s all-electric range, which VW says is 31 miles. Reps also say that in hybrid mode the C Coupe GTE Concept can go over 497 miles, providing real-world driving range for commuters who are tired of seeing their hard earned money go down the gas tank. In addition to hybrid mode there are several other operating modes, including: E-Mode, GTE and Battery Charge/Battery Hold.

As you’ll see in the following photos, rear-seat passengers enjoy just as much of a connected experience as front-seat passengers, thanks to the integration of a center console and dual media displays on the back of the front seats. This setup gives backseat guests direct face-to-face access to the car’s entertainment system and the ability to control the system from their seats, a privilege which has typically been reserved for those in front. Besides this, the interior shows off wraparound ambient lighting, Damascus steel trim around the front air vents, wood trim on the door panels, Dynaudio loudspeakers, an Active Info Display with high-def 3D visuals and other luxury touches.

If Volkswagen’s C Coupe GTE Concept ever did go into production, we don’t know if all of its Euro-inspired features would be included in the final model, but they sure look cool so hopefully VW would keep them onboard. Check out pics below!
