When you've got a hard-to-reach itch, a backscratcher usually comes in handy. But for an animal such as an elephant, trees or large rocks will often do the trick. However, in a recent incident at a national park in South Africa, one of the facility's elephants used a Volkswagen. The car's passengers were terrified as the animal's weight smashed the windows, broke the car's chassis and even blew out all the tires. Thankfully, although they were a bit traumatized from the event, no one was hurt.

"The all-round emotion that was within our vehicle, as we watched in horror, was that we were rushed with adrenaline yet terrified and helpless," said one of the vehicle's occupants.

Armand Grobler, who captured the unusual event on camera, was right in the midst of the action. Grobler is field studying lodge management at the park and said that, while it appeared that the elephant had an itch to scratch, it was also most likely in musth. This is a state in which male elephants produce enhanced levels of testosterone, and it very well could have incited aggressive behavior out of the animal, but luckily for the car's passengers, this particular elephant was in more of a playful mood.
