Soon Car-Net enabled Volkswagens will offer Apple Watch integration, giving owners the ability to control remote vehicle functions via their wrists! The new smart watch is already a hit and we’re guessing that some of you have them, so we wanted to give you the lowdown on what VW models will sync with the watch and the type of functions you’ll be able to perform.
When the Apple Watch app is released, owners and lessees of select 2014 and later Passat, Eos, Beetle, CC, Jetta and Tiguan models will have smart watch capability. All 2015 and later Golf models, including the GTI, R, SportWagen and e-Golf (not currently available in Arizona), will also be compatible with the watch. Volkswagen will include Apple Watch integration with its next round of Car-Net updates, but didn’t give an exact date for the app release, so keep an eye out for it on the iTunes App Store.
The same Car-Net functions you control via your smartphone and laptop can also be managed through the wristwatch, including but not limited to:
- The Family Guardian feature allows you to set speed limits and driving boundaries for your teen. You receive alerts if your child drives outside of a set radius or over the set speed limit.
- Remote Vehicle Access lets you check and manage your car while you’re away from it. You can lock and unlock the doors remotely; use the Last Parked Location tool to find your vehicle if you get lost; check fuel levels; check doors, windows and sunroofs to see if they’re open or closed; and so on.
- The Diagnostic and Maintenance feature lets you keep an eye on your VW’s health. It also sends reminders when your car is in need of service and enables you to schedule service appointments at Camelback VW with the “i-Button.”
