Many drivers come to the Camelback Difference service department with a common vehicle performance problem: shaking. Whether it’s minor rumbling or harsh vibration, shaking at low or high speeds, or shimmies that only occur when you brake, all that shuddering can be incredibly annoying and it may indicate a problem that should be looked at sooner than later.
Check out our list below to see some of the primary reasons why cars get the shakes and bring your vehicle to our service department soon if it’s been vibrating lately, especially if that vibrating is accompanied by any strange sounds.
Top Reasons Why Cars Vibrate
- You ran over a curb or got into a minor fender bender and bent your axle in the process.
- Your car’s engine isn’t receiving the electricity, fuel or air it needs; which could be because your fuel filter or air filter is clogged, or because of worn out spark plugs or spark plug wires.
- You haven’t had your tires aligned or balanced, so they’re not able to drive straight; also uneven tread wear can cause vibration, too.
- Components of the suspension or steering system need to be fixed or replaced, such as the shocks or ball joint for example.
- Your rotors are warped, so the brake pads can’t get a good grip on them; if vibration only seems to occur when you brake this is likely the issue.
- While rare, if a vehicle’s brake caliper gets stuck, it can not only cause bad vibration (especially at high speeds), but also a burning smell.
