Specs at a Glance
Volkswagen is an old pro at compact SUVs, and the Taos and Tiguan remain two of their most highly evolved compact models. Known for their highly maneuverable, small design and robust handling, each of these models has something to offer our customers. Which one is right for you?
Performance
The Taos and Tiguan are compact models, so they don't swing for the fences on horsepower. With a smaller, slimmer body, the Taos gets serious acceleration and a smooth performance out of its 1.5L turbocharged engine. It ranges in horsepower from 158 hp to 174 hp. VW's Tiguan is even more powerful and also sports a turbocharged engine, this time rated at 201 horsepower. Which one is right for you depends on how much power you're looking for in your daily life.
Appearance
The Taos has a more upright windshield and curved hood for a much more traditional SUV look. Tiguan models have changed with the times and opt for a shorter, straighter hood line and a more angled windshield that gives way to modernity. A base model Taos comes with 17" alloy wheels with all-season tires, black roof rails, and automatic LED projector headlamps. Tiguan base models show off the same 17" wheels and LED headlamps, but they also get an adaptive front lighting system and LED taillights. Customers will also appreciate the Tiguan's heated power-adjustable side mirrors.
Features
The Taos's fully loaded trim is called the SEL, while the Tiguan's most advanced trim is called the SEL R-Line. Comparing these two models showcases how the Taos prefers the practical luxuries of life, while the Tiguan gets a little fancier. A fully loaded Taos comes with leather seating, 19" alloy wheels, an 8" touchscreen, and ambient interior lighting. The Tiguan's most advanced trim boasts perforated Varenna leather seats with full back massage, a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio system, and a 15 touchscreen navigation system. Driver assist features are robust on both trims, but the Tiguan's Active Blind Spot Monitor, Exit Warning System, and Rear Traffic Alert system are all highlights between the two models. Each one will find fanbases at our dealership this year.
