Volkswagen to Refresh Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport Appearance for 2024

At the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen debuted the updated 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs. The outside style of the five- and seven-seater crossovers has been overhauled. They also have new wheels and a more opulent interior. The optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine has been removed. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged with 269 horsepower will take its place as the only available powerplant.

Volkswagen's Atlas three-row SUV has previously undergone a facelift. It made its debut for the 2018 model year and had a minor redesign in 2021 to harmonize with the two-row Atlas Cross Sport, which made its debut for the 2020 model year. But this time, VW's designers have updated the biggest SUV in the lineup with more vigor.

Verify the fit. The revised grilles, C-shaped headlamps, and full-width taillamps give the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport more contemporary styling. A light bar that spans the top of the grille and an illuminated front VW logo is standard on all models aside from the cheapest ones. All four of the SUV's corners have new wheel designs, 18 to 21 inches. A wider rear spoiler will assist the Atlas with a more swept-back roofline. The interior, where Volkswagen has improved the passenger experience with finer materials and more convenient features, will see significant modifications.

All versions come with a 10.3-inch digital gauge display and a 12.0-inch infotainment display as standard equipment; a head-up display is an option. All Atlas models include a wireless smartphone charging pad, at least six fast-charging USB-C ports, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the infotainment system. A height-adjustable passenger seat, heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats are all standard. The voice-activated automated climate control technology is a nice addition.

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport only come with one engine, a new 269-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four, as opposed to the previous models' two choices of a 235-hp turbo four or a 276-hp 3.6-liter V-6. All models still come standard with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is an option.

The EPA has not yet commented on the fuel efficiency of the turbo four. VW claims it should be better than the previous generation. The Atlas is capable of towing loads. It can draw up to 5000 pounds.
