Mid-size SUVs rank among the most popular class of vehicles for Americans. It doesn't take much guessing to know why. Mid-size models are well-balanced between size and performance. They're usually easier to drive than longer, wider models, but they also have the edge over compact models for interior cargo and passenger capacity. Volkswagen's ID.7 GTX is an all-electric mid-size that promises to be more upscale than previous ID-series SUVs.
A Beautiful Showcase of Design, Power, and Control
One of the most promising and memorable glimpses we've had of the VW ID.7 GTX was of its incredible LED headlamp design. It's obvious that Volkswagen wanted a natural "eye" look for their ID.7's headlamps. You can almost see what looks like a lash at the top of the headlamp. The headlamp is etched in an oval shape, but within that oval shape is a circle. This shape is surrounded by an upper LED accent and a black surround to make sure the eye is inset. It's a stunning design.
The inside of the model will have red GTX contrast stitching and tinted windows for a greater sense of privacy. Volkswagen already announced that they're offering a dual-motor all-wheel drive version for the ID.7, so expect some serious power to become this model's defining characteristic. With two motors and all-wheel drive powering it forward, all those sharp, sporty accents won't be empty talk. This one backs up its appearance with performance. Dual-motor powertrains generate more authoritative power and usually come with more mechanical refinements. The ID.7 GTX is no exception to this rule.
GTX means performance. With such a luxuriously designed SUV already making headlines, Volkswagen's ID.7 becomes an early legend just by adding high performance to the mix. Volkswagen's mechanical systems are there to elevate performance even further. They recently announced that there will be a vehicle dynamics manager and chassis control systems to keep all available power under control. Recent announcements revealed that the ID.7 GTX will have well over 300 horsepower and a possible range of over 400 miles. We'll have updates on official specs when they're finally available to us.
