Specs at a Glance
Volkswagen offers some of today's most satisfying SUVs. Some car shoppers will ultimately be choosing between the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2024 Volkswagen Taos. While the three-row Atlas can seat up to seven passengers, the more compact Taos can comfortably accommodate up to five people. Let's take a closer look at how these two models compare.
Performance
The VW Atlas is powered by a new 2.0-liter, turbocharged TSI four-cylinder engine. Output has increased to 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This extra muscle enables the Atlas to confidently tow up to 5,000 pounds. If you crave off-road adventure, opt for the SUV's 4MOTION AWD system.
Volkswagen equips the Taos with a 1.5-liter, turbocharged TSI four-cylinder engine. It manages to produce a healthy 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Like the Atlas, the Taos can be equipped with VW's 4MOTION AWD system. While the Taos does have a lower towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, drivers can benefit from its higher fuel economy.
Appearance
The Atlas returns for the 2024 model year with a more attention-grabbing appearance. Its new headlights and updated grille make a serious statement. Outdoor lovers will be interested in the especially rugged-looking Atlas Peak Edition, which features an exclusive front fascia and unique black wheels.
Many drivers will also like the exterior styling of the new Taos. Subtle curves help give it a sporty look. Sleek LED headlights and taillights come standard. Featuring 18-inch black alloy wheels and blacked-out accents, the Taos SE Black is destined to get a lot of attention. Volkswagen also offers the Taos in several eye-catching colors, including Kings Red Metallic and Platinum Gray Metallic.
Features
Many great features come standard on the Atlas. Heated and ventilated front seats help ensure outstanding comfort on the road. Meanwhile, Volkswagen's modern infotainment system boasts a 12.0-inch screen with App-Connect smartphone connectivity. Other standard equipment includes V-Tex leatherette upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, three-zone automatic climate control, and IQ.DRIVE safety technologies.
The Taos is also a well-equipped SUV. Some of its standard features include a VW Digital Cockpit gauge cluster, a 6.5-inch touchscreen with App-Connect, and push-button start. Standard IQ.DRIVE safety tech enables you to travel with an extra degree of confidence. There are also plenty of upgrades available for the Taos, including dual-zone automatic climate control and a BeatsAudio premium sound system.
