Specs at a Glance
The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI is one of the most versatile performance models on the market. Not only does this legendary hatchback deliver a fun drive, but it also offers impressive everyday practicality. Updated tech features and refreshed styling make the 2025 model even more exciting. When shopping for a new Golf GTI, some folks will decide between the S and SE trim levels. Here’s an overview of how these two trims compare.
Performance
Both trims come equipped with a 2.0-liter, TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s rated to develop an entertaining 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed DSG automatic transmission sends power to a front-wheel drive system. To promote optimum handling, VW outfits the new Golf GTI with a sport suspension. Meanwhile, a limited-slip differential helps enhance traction.
Appearance
Even the entry-level S trim has an aggressive look. While new 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires accentuate the car’s sporty stance, dual exhaust finishers give the rear fascia a muscular profile. Revised LED headlights add more style. Several striking exterior colors are available, including a Red Metallic and Slate Blue Metallic.
In contrast to the Golf GTI S, the SE trim comes equipped with a power sunroof. It also features a different set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
Features
The S trim’s list of standard equipment is impressive. Technology lovers will especially enjoy VW’s new Discover Media infotainment system, which features a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen with navigation. Amenities, such as heated front sport seats, enable the Golf GTI S to offer a comfortable drive. Other highlights include wireless smartphone charging, a digital gauge cluster, and advanced safety features.
While the S trim has a seven-speaker audio unit, the SE trim steps up to a nine-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system. Clubsport ArtVelours seating surfaces and proximity keyless entry further distinguish the Golf GTI SE.
