There are a few updates for the 2021 Passat. The top SEL trim has been dropped, moving the R-Line up as the top model, with more standard features, including a premium audio system. The Passat S gets a more luxurious interior with a leather-encased steering wheel. A sunroof is now standard on the Passat SE, and it comes with alloy wheels.
Impressive No Matter Which Trim You Choose
This year, the Volkswagen Passat comes in three trim levels. The lineup consists of the S, SE, and R-Line. The S has an infotainment system with Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. It seats five people and has cloth seating material. The SE now has a standard sunroof, which was previously only available. Its seating material upgrades to soft simulated leather upholstery. The SE also has larger 18-inch wheels compared to the 17-inch wheels on the base trim. The R-Line adds the works with even larger 19-inch wheels. It also has sporty exterior styling cues. The R-Line has a multi-function display for both the instrument cluster and the sunroof. More safety technology is included, and it adds navigation.
Featuring Great Performance
There is one engine for the Volkswagen Passat family in 2021. The Passat gets a turbocharged engine with four cylinders and a 2.0L displacement. With this engine under its hood, the Passat can generate 174 HP and 206 LB-FT of torque, which is plenty of power for daily driving and a fun driving experience. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard.

The Volkswagen Passat gets a cascading list of safety features in 2021, with more features standard on the higher-end trims. The SE comes with blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward-collision warning. Adaptive cruise control is added on the higher-end trims, and all trims have advanced airbags.
