The all-new, fully remodeled 2015 Golf has added yet another trophy to its shelf of awards and this one’s a doozy. Beating out the redesigned Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis in a landslide win, judges at the North American International Auto Show named Golf their 2015 Car of the Year! This win follows Golf’s Motor Trend Car of the Year award and Autoweek Best of the Best Car award, and all honors recognize both the Golf and Golf GTI, which is a fireball in the hot-hatch segment.
The North American Car of the Year trophy is arguably the most coveted award in the industry and it celebrates vehicles that set new benchmarks in their segments. The completely redesigned 2015 VW Golf does just that, setting new standards in fuel economy, performance, utility and safety, while looking good at the same time.
At the NAIAS, Golf received the most points from the auto show’s panel of jurors - 256 - and was therefore crowned North American Car of the Year. The other two finalists fell short of this, with the Mustang receiving 204 points and the Genesis pulling only 110 points. Regarding Golf’s win, Karl Brauer, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book and North American Car of the Year juror said, “If the 2015 Golf signifies where VW is headed, the German automaker's future looks bright indeed."
Also, in regard to Golf’s Best of the Best Car award, one Autoweek staffer threw in a glowing comment about the GTI, "This is the best hot-hatch on the American market -- and it may be the best car you can buy for less than $30K."
