Specs at a Glance
The updated 2025 Volkswagen Taos is an appealing choice for drivers who desire the versatility of a compact SUV. Not only does the Taos prioritize everyday comfort, but it also offers a fun drive. Furthermore, a slew of modern tech features are available. When shopping for a new Taos, some folks will be deciding between the S and SE trim levels. Here's an overview of how these two trims compare.
Performance
Both of these Taos trims come equipped with the same sprinted powertrain. Resting under the hood is a revamped 1.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It now pumps out a hearty 174 horsepower, which translates to improved performance. An eight-speed automatic transmission is also found throughout the lineup. While front-wheel drive is standard, you can opt for VW's 4MOTION AWD system.
Appearance
For the 2025 model year, Volkswagen opted to refresh this SUV's styling. Even the S trim now receives LED projector headlights as standard equipment. A new LED taillight arrangement adds more flair. Several attention-grabbing exterior colors are available, including Monterey Blue Pearl and Deep Black Pearl. While the Taos S comes standard with 17 alloy wheels, the Taos SE receives larger 18-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment. Exclusive paint colors, such as Bright Moss Green Metallic and Cornflower Blue, are also offered on the Taos SE.
Features
The Taos S is well-equipped for an entry-level trim. Drivers will enjoy its customizable VW Digital Cockpit gauge cluster. This year, Volkswagen also bolstered the S trim by upgrading it with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen. IQ.Drive, which is a collection of advanced safety features, is on the S trim's list of standard equipment. It provides blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
While the Taos S is certainly a great value, some drivers will be interested in the SE trim's premium features. Its infotainment system adds wireless smartphone connectivity. Amenities, such as dual-zone automatic climate control and remote start, help take comfort to the next stage. Meanwhile, upgraded CloudTex and cloth seating surfaces give the cabin a more upscale character.
